Changing My Role: Thanksgiving 2023
All families have particular dynamics. Within the family dynamic everyone plays a role. A role I have filled in my family for years is “helper.” I started to embody this role around the time I was seven years old, and it has been one I’ve carried throughout my life. Fast forward 30 years, and I am just realizing that I have spent every single family holiday helping in the kitchen. This year, I am changing my role!
Mothering While Healing Generational Trauma
Here’s what I know for sure: Breaking generational curses is hard! I believe it is hardest for those who are one generation removed from the trauma itself. We are doing the work of healing ourselves while also trying to create a safe environment for someone else. Remember to be kind and patient with yourself. Remember to forgive yourself…and forgive again.

Sometimes, I plug in my phone and it charges immediately. Other times, I have to plug it in five times, turn it backward and forward, wiggle the cord, replug the USB cable, pray, and then it works. The charger has been this way for at least six months.
Habari Gani? IMANI!
On this final day of 2020, I wanted to offer a few words of encouragement. The 7 principles of Kwanzaa have encouraged me in the last 7-days of this year, and I thought they might do the same for you. Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the principles
Dr. Pinkney is having a baby….well two.
I am thrilled to announce that I am finally pregnant! I have wanted to be a mother for years, and my partner and I put a lot of prayer, time and resources into making this a reality for our family. As someone who has wanted to experience motherhood for years, I have imagined what it would be like to be pregnant.
