The Benefit of a Good Coach
I am a Carolina Girl. Being from North Carolina comes with its perks: Bojangles, Smithfield's BBQ, Cheerwine, the Outer Banks, a great song by Petey Pablo, and, of course, basketball. I never realized I was from "basketball country" until I moved to Georgia and someone started talking about football, and I genuinely did not understand why they cared. The men in my family watched basketball all year, as did I. Last Monday was a very important day in my house; March Madness was ending. Although my team, Carolina, was already out of the running, I was very excited about Villanova. I never really paid much attention to Villanova, but when I saw them play their second or third game, I told my little brother, Julian, "They are going to win." He shot back a comment that implied I didn't know what I was talking about. My eldest brother, Cameron, said that Michigan was a better team and they would win. I knew Villanova was going to win it all. I was confident that I was right and had done something I had never done before. I bet them both $3 that Villanova would win and instructed them to cash app me my money at the end of the game. Yep. I was talking Sh*t.
Honestly, I don't know too much about basketball. I watch enough to maintain a relationship with my brothers and to stay socially relevant. I am no expert. Still, I knew Villanova would be the 2018 NCAA Division I Champions. I knew they would win because they had a really, really, really, good coach. It was a little of the "it takes one to know one," but I spotted Jay Wright a mile away. I could see the effect he had on his players. He knew his players ' strengths and weaknesses. Because he knew them as individuals, he built a great team by allowing each individual to utilize their superpowers to benefit the collective. He put them in the correct positions so the team played well. Good coaching makes all the difference.
I am no basketball coach, but I am one hell of a life coach. With me on your team, you are sure to be a champion too. But remember, even though coaches help players win games, it is your game to play. Are you playing to win? Do you know your position in the game of life? Are you playing it well? Do you have the right people on your team? Are you training yourself with the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual tools you need to realize yourself as the champion you are? I'd be honored to join your team as your coach. Together, you can win!
