A Thanksgiving Gift for Yourself: Embracing the Power of Gratitude

The past few months have been nothing short of childcare chaos. We've been on a wild ride trying to find the right nanny for our kids. Imagine this: one lasted 90 days, the next 6-weeks, another only four. It’s been frustrating, disruptive, and exhausting—filling in all the childcare gaps while trying to hold everything else together.

This whirlwind even forced us to make some hard choices. I had to tell my family we couldn’t make it to Thanksgiving in Raleigh this year. The drive without help felt impossible, and we were just too drained to manage it all.

But—y’all—life just threw us a blessing.

About a week ago, a fabulous nanny walked into our lives. Her trial period quickly rolled over into her actual begging days! (I mean, beginning days, but we hope shes a keeper!) We’re off to a strong start, and I’m hopeful this one’s here to stay. Pray for us! 🙏🏾

Because she’s here, everything shifted. Instead of making a quick trip to Benihana with Louis and the kids for Thanksgiving dinner, we’re actually on our way to Raleigh! I’m writing this e-blast from the front seat while the nanny handles the homies in the backseat. And for that, I am so, so grateful.

This season, I’m reminded that sometimes, the chaos makes the blessings even sweeter. Let’s commit to practicing gratitude in every moment. There is so much to be grateful for.

Here’s how gratitude can uplift and support you on every level:

Mental Clarity and Calm

Gratitude helps us focus on the positive, which reduces stress and promotes a clearer, more optimistic outlook. When we take time to appreciate what we have, we create space in our minds for peace and calm, lessening anxiety and quieting the mental chatter that can drain us.

Spiritual Connection and Purpose

Recognizing and appreciating the beauty in our lives helps us feel connected to something greater than ourselves. Whether you call it the universe, spirit, or simply a deep sense of purpose, gratitude strengthens our spiritual lives, reminding us that we’re part of a larger, supportive world.

Physical Benefits for Health and Energy

Did you know that practicing gratitude can have physical benefits too? Studies show that people who regularly practice gratitude experience lower blood pressure, better sleep, and increased energy. Gratitude activates our parasympathetic nervous system, helping the body relax, heal, and recharge, which supports overall health and resilience.

Emotional Resilience and Joy

Gratitude can uplift our emotions, bringing more joy and resilience into our lives. When we actively focus on what we’re thankful for, we’re better able to handle life’s challenges. It’s like building a reserve of emotional strength, allowing us to bounce back from setbacks and savor the good moments.

Today, I invite you to spend a few minutes reflecting on the people, experiences, and simple pleasures that bring you joy. Consider starting a gratitude journal, or simply take a few deep breaths and mentally list five things you’re grateful for right now. Notice how this small act can shift your mindset and bring a sense of peace, no matter where you are or what you’re going through.

Wishing you a Thanksgiving filled with warmth, love, and abundant gratitude. Thank you for being part of the B. Well community—your presence here is something I’m truly grateful for.

With love and gratitude,
